Nub Connecticut 358 Cigar Review

The Nubs always treat me well.  This is the first time I have ever had one of the Connecticut wrapper variety and I must say it’s a nice change of pace.  Velvety smoke with a nice toasty flavor.  Not much spice and I have been fighting the drag but the burn is great and over all experience is fine.  Smoke one yourself and let me know what you think!

    Nice review! I like the 460 sizes myself. I do have to say, the nicotine in the connie is erratic, to say the least. Some connies I have had didnt do a thing, while others seemed to have a kick.

    Good to see a professional confirm my opinion of Nub cigars. I first experienced Nubs at Outlaw Cigar Company in KC, MO this Spring where Nub was the feature sponsor. Even got to meet Mr. Olivas who Nub uses for their wrappers. Their people were very easy to talk with and as much of a cigar amature as I am, I didn’t feel silly asking them my questions. Nor did they make me feel silly.

    I’ve tried every cigar you mentioned. I enjoyed them all, but prefer the darker/bolder smokes myself, but really appreciated the Connecticut because I could bring that to my friend who isn’t a fan of the bolder stuff.

    Question: Have you ever tried cutting the end instead of punching it? Would that ‘free up’ the smoke?

    Anthony, glad you like them too! I have tried every method of cutting, notching and punching and have found that if a cigar is tight it will be tight no matter how you cut it. I like the punch because it’s very clean, helps trap occasional bitter oils/tar, and concentrates the smoke. But mostly I just like it because it’s clean :) I think my second favorite is the notch cut.

    First off i wanted to say what a great website you have got going here. Really great reviews, and info, and being a younger aficionado myself i appreciate the lack of bullshit and snobbery that you often get from the older crowd, and the great info on lesser known brands.

    I live in London, and as such have no problem getting hold of most Cubans, with my particular favorites being the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 or the Hoyo Petit Robustos.

    As such i have never really strayed from Cuban cigars, but was recommended the Nub Connecticut by my local supplier (Cigars Unlimited in Fulham – if you are ever in London check them out, amazing range of stock)as a cheaper alternative to the Epicure for a daily mellow smoke, but still with plenty of flavor, and was blown away by what a great little cigar it is – they now are my go to Cigar, and i save the Hoyo’s for special occasions.

    Having smoked them both punched and cut, using a cut does IMO make for a better smoke with the Nubs, but as you say, its all a matter of personal preference.
