Rocky Patel ITC Corojo 6.5 X 52 Torpedo

Well folks it’s a lovely evening here in San Diego and I got to spend some time with a new friend, the Rockey Patel ITC, out in my shop. At first glance the ITC looked very promising. The Corojo wrapper was smooth and the weight and density felt good between my fingers. It toasted and lit it up well only to quickly digress into an unconsistent burn. Once the stick warmed up a bit I could feel a soft area in the binder that ran about half way, naturally this area was the cause of the inconsistant burn.
Initially the flavors were a little lackluster and had a very earthy vibe with a nice aroma and a little spice through the nose. The draw was perfect and once I got past the soft spot the burn almost got back on track. However, this was short lived when I tried to remove the first band. The sucker was glued on with some serious gusto and managed to pull the wrapper up despite my gentle attempt to disengage it. The smoke was thick and rich and I was also a bit surprised at the amount of nicotine pulsing through my veins for such a light aromatic cigar. I enjoyed it with a glass of cheap (yet pretty tasty) Gato Negro Merlot and they seemed to pair nicely.
The flavor deepened a bit in the last 3 inches but not by much and the spice seemed to die out. After all the fun with the wrapper the nub ended up being a mess and I gave up with about an inch and a half left.

I had the Lonsdale size and loved it. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it as much as I did…
Yeah as you can see from the pictures that little mo was having issues! I would be willing to give it another try
I had one of these at a Rocky Patel event at a cigar shop in town. It was a solid smoke, but it didn’t blow me away. My experience was that the last 1/3 tasted the best. It really did deepen to a nice mellow flavor.
How was the Decade you had the other night? I have one in the humidor waiting for me.
I’m still such a noob. I don’t notice things like uneven burning. Maybe it’s because I’m not that confident in my lighting skills, so I just assume it’s my fault when it doesn’t burn evenly. I also need to pay better attention to how the cigar’s attributes change during the smoke itself.
Jaime, the light is the most important thing in keeping your burn consistent. You always want to have a good start! I’m going to make a video one of these days to help people out but for now just try to make it as even as possible to start and read the tips in the Cigar School section on how to fix an uneven burn.
Sorry for your troubles…..have had several ITC robustos…..my favorite….those that I have had were nice smokes…very little trouble …very smooth with a little pepper…nice blue smoke…no burn problems…would suggest you give another one a try….have you tried the edge lites?
Norman, I’m thinking it was an issue with the shop’s humidor that I bought it from. I’m going to have to pick another up from a different place or let it rest in mine for a longer period of time. I am usually a Maduro kind of guy and I think I have had the edge light once. The edge Maduro is my standby
